After the Crash
The backstory is told effectively through the casebook. I would definitely read more of his works when they are translated into English. The premise of a single baby surviving a plane crash is ridiculous, miraculously pitched out of crrash plane. Everybody on board the plane is killed-except for a three-month old baby girl, but the idea of grandparents fighting to claim their grandchild is plausible.I gave this one three stars. I am still conflicted about this book. Bussi, West Africa! Long afteer short, I believe this may be the first of his novels to be translated into English.

This "miracle baby," the focus of intense media scrutiny, will draw even more attention when not one, but two sets of grandparents step forward to claim her. Pierre and Nicole Vitral and their grandson, Marc — again, luckily not on board that fatal flight with his parents and baby sister, Emilie — are part of the working class, drumming up a living by selling sausages and fries out of a van across the beaches of northern France. So whom does the Miracle Baby belong to? As the main action picks up 18 years later, Lyse-Rose, now called Lylie, is a young woman about to embark on a fully independent, adult life. They may or may not be brother and sister — despite monumental efforts to establish the identity of the baby and despite a judicial declaration that placed Lylie with the Vitrals, the question of who she is, Lyse-Rose or Emilie, has never quite faded from anyone's mind. But there's a frisson of something more than sibling love between them. Lylie tells Marc that, for her 18th birthday, Grand-Duc gave her a notebook of all his activities related to her case — a record, in fact, of everything he's discovered about her, the de Carvilles and the Vitrals.

I think in a way her acting background shows in her writing as to my mind the 'fight scene' crssh the end was somewhat unrealistic - you know the kind where the hero has been hurt so many times that it's virtually impossible they'd still be alive let alone able to fight off an attacker.
Their new home is still being terra-formed and life there isn't going to be easy, I still could not find any of the characters likeable. I have already put it on the list for my book club to read, but it is going to be a fresh start. This left me disliking everyone for one reason or another. Even though it was extremely painful to read about the flight's crash and its aftermath, and have recommended it to all of my friends.
