World Book Day Costumes | Party DelightsTomorrow 7 March marks the 22nd year of World Book Day, when youngsters across the UK come together to celebration books and reading. The aim of the day is to encourage more children to get involved in reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own. Each year, children and adults alike get involved with the celebration by dressing up as characters from their favourite stories. But if you've left the planning until the last minute this year, or are struggling for inspiration, here are some last minute costume ideas you can easily pull together from bits and bobs in your cupboards at home. This is an easy one to rustle up if you have a red and white striped t-shirt lurking in your wardobe. A favourite book character for many, all you'll need to re-create the look of the famous wizard is a makeshift wand try rolled up black paper or a stick , glasses, white school shirt, tie and trousers, black cape and some face paint to draw on Harry's iconic lightning scar. Smart school trousers, white shirt and a bow tie will do the trick, and if you have one, a blazer to complete the look.

On World Book Day , authors are being urged to include more characters with disabilities in their stories. Oscar-winner Rachel Shenton and Julia Donaldson, author of The Gruffalo have called for children's books to contain more diversity, explaining that it's important for children to "see themselves in the programmes and movies they watch and in the books they read".
