14 best vegetarian cookbooks | The IndependentSometimes, the right cookbook arrives at the right time. For me, it was a book called Bowls of Goodness. Bowls of Goodness wasn't a book I'd heard of before it landed in my lap, but I'm very glad it did. It does what it says on the tin well, the front cover - tasty, healthy bowl food. All the recipes are either vegan or veggie with a vegan option - in almost all case, the veganisation is easy which makes you wonder why not just make all the recipes vegan, but still - hopefully there'll be a vegan follow-up soon. Everything I've made from the book so fa has been good, and most of it great. At the minute, I just can't stop cooking recipes from the book, because they all look so inviting, take very little cooking skill, and end up not only tasting delicious, but leaving you feel like you've done your body a favour with your food choices.

This was one of the least successful dishes in my Bowls of Goodness experiments - the oats in the granola lent it a bit of a dusty texture I couldn't really love, but I dare say I could remedy with a bit more judicious use of olive oil.

The book is filled with recipes for bowl-served meals that range from breakfast to dinner, Malaysia and the Middle East - bowl food lends itself perfectly to multi-cultural flavours and in one bowl you can create a little trip for gook tastebuds. Part of a chain in Amsterdam, we visited this branch when returning from the museum area. Their menu is focused on soups, salads and some drinks - with a clear focus on health- including several vegetarian choices. The chef was friendly and let us sample a few before we went with a tomato-jalapeno soup. Portions are generous. The menu changes regularly, and everything is prepared fresh in an open kitchen behind the counter. A must-visit.
If you go meat-free you might find yourself eating more beans - and you're going to want your culinary repertoire to extend beyond beans on toast. Not all quinoa are created equal. I haven't heard of the cookbook before but all of the recipes you tried look super delicious! They do an amazing range of homemade soups with lovely bread, they do vegetarian ones as we!

Her book is ggoodness - eggs and dairy are used but in a way so that if they were omitted the integrity of the recipe would remain intact there are a few exceptions - like her beetroot pasta which requires eggs for the dough.
