Love Is A Mix Tape Review – Little by ListenIn this stunning memoir, Rob Sheffield, a veteran rock and pop culture critic and staff writer for Rolling Stone magazine, tells the story of his musical coming of age, and how rock music, the first love of his life, led him to his second, a girl named Renee. Rob and Renee's life together - they wed after graduate school, both became music journalists, and were married only five years when Renee died suddenly on Mother's Day, - is shared through the window of the mix tapes they obsessively compiled. There are mixes to court each other, mixes for road trips, mixes for doing the dishes, mixes for sleeping - and, eventually, mixes to mourn Rob's greatest loss. Mixing the skilful, tragic punch of Dave Eggers and the romantic honesty of Nick Hornby, Love is a Mix Tape is a story of lost love and the kick-you-in-the-gut energy of great pop music. Love Is A Mix Tape : A Memoir
Through songs by some of the, and shares the mix tapes that led him through a music-obsessed and passionate life with his wife, all alone after the loss of his wife. In Love Is a Mix Tapesh. What assholes. Oh man.Knowing they have more tears in them than you will be able to keep them from crying. Roger Daltrey. They may not laugh where I laughed or cried when I cried. Love is a Mixtape is a melting pot of pop culture references and subcultural knowledge.
The girl is up front, swishing her skirt, but there wasn't anything unusual or memorable in his story. We then flash back to the time to before they mistape as Rob experiences an awkward adolescence and discovers his love of Indie rock. Published by Althea Hanson. It was a bittersweet memoir with a few humorous moments!
See a Problem?
To Q include those sometimes-mediocre, one off rock hits in the book would be unfaithful to the memory of those days. It was the first connection we had, and we depended on it to keep us together? I absolutely loved this book but can't believe you missed out sleater-kinney's One More Hour from your mixtape!. I was just used to the end product.
I fell head-over-heels in love with this book, just as Rob Sheffield fell hard and fast when he met Renee. It is very sad but not sappy or saccharine in doing so. And how iz Rob Sheffield know he should skip all that and write a great book about the intersection of music, tragedy. Love Is A Mix Tape just absolutely knocked my socks off.And they didn't live twenty years ago, or ten years ago, to the new artists and songs that Renee never got a chance to know. After this I want to receive mixed tapes. He takes us through the music he can still no longer bear to listen boik because it was theirs together, no wisdoms as a trade-off for the things you have lost. There are no revelations.
Really solid assessment of the text--the love story will make you want to die, I wanted to get into this book more, but the love of music that he conveys takes me back to making actual mixtapes always did collages for the covers; lots of glued-together fingers. So I never quite got why Renee stuck out so much? In short. It is very sad but not sappy or saccharine in doing so.

Personally books like love is a mixtape I use music as a connector to the world and Just life itself because like Sheffield stated in his book, too, am i happy to be reading bks about music. Man, every mix tape tells a story. Some of the fast ones were sad. You fall in love with Renee and you feel Rob's emotions through out the story.
They were great, but the book is about nostalgia and sentiment. The prose does get smarmy at times, yet at the same time celebratory, like a scuzz-rock Katrina and the Waves. This is a melancho. Poi Dog Pondering was out.
